Storage System 2005
Architect: Touraine Richmond Architects
Client: Brooke Wentz
Program: Stores 4,000 CD’s and 1,500 LP’s in room divider configuration
Service: Custom furniture design
This custom-designed storage unit houses 4000 cd’s and 1500 lp’s and was commissioned by a world music rights lawyer. It is the result of a programmatic manipulation of a previous unit built for film director Wim Wenders.
The piece is 4′ high, 6′ long and 3′ wide. It is a minimalist, brushed aluminum monolith on wheels. The interior is a red lacquered paint finish. Every panel is activated by pistons or touch≠latch hinges. It can be seen as a pure box or as a “transformer” expandable element. The structure is in steel. Every corner is mitered to create an extremely delicate and refined profile.
